Ernie Harwell Farewell

"Ernie Harwell was born Jan. 25, 1918... in Washington, Ga." “Born Jan.25,1918…Washington, Ga.”

Ernie Harwell the voice of Tigers Baseball.

1960 -2002 he called the play by play. As a young man… I used to listen to him, on my transistor radio. Oh how I loved The countless hours of enjoyment he brought to me! He had a way of calling the game that gave you that mind set that you… were right there!Oh the days of radio…
when one could close the eyes and… see.
Ernie said…. he began feeling ill this summer. He had surgery in August. 2009….. for an obstructed bile duct. Doctors found a cancerous tumor. They advised him against further surgery.

“Whatever happens, I’m ready to face it,” Ernie said… “I have a great faith in God… and Jesus.”

Ernie_Harwell_3 Ernie spent 55 glorious years as a broadcaster, and last of the 42 years with our Detroit Tigers. In 1981, he won the Ford C. Frick Award from the… National Baseball Hall of Fame. Those whom he knows and those who listened to him…. Will miss him upon his passing. We have great memories…
of 1968 and 1984. Hang in there Ernie… and see those Tigers win in 2009.
